Escape to Italia: Sorrento Part 1
Up and at 'em early, we knew we had a bit of an adventure in front of us when it came from travel from Florence to Sorrento. We hopped on a train from Florence S.M.N. Station to Naples. From there, we met a car driver who took us to the hotel. The train was about 3 hours but the seats were comfy and came equipped with charging stations for our phones and WIFI, so it wasn't a bad 3 hours at all.
Our car driver was awesome. Super helpful when I asked all about the area, as he was a lifelong local. We got some insider info about Sorrento from him and really enjoyed seeing this new area as we drove from the train station to the peninsula. There is so much rich history in Italy that it can be a lot to take it all in! But hearing the info from the locals is a truly amazing way to experience a trip.
All I can say about the hotel was that it was beyond. Hotel Parco dei Principi is situated on a cliff overlooking the sea. The seaview rooms give a breathtaking view of the coast as well as Mt. Vesuvius in the distance. It is all white and blue and easily whisks you into the stunning world that is Sorrento. They have a shuttle bus that takes you into town, but within the hotel is also a restaurant and a bar. My favorite touch was the robe and slippers that were in the room! And listening to the waves from just outside the window.
After our travel, we checked-in and took the shuttle to town. After some beer, gelato, and walking around, we had dinner at Tasso. The servers and waitstaff were all amazing and the food was supreme. Seeing as this is a fishing town, the seafood is all very fresh and delicious. Last time I was in Italy, I visited Forte dei Marmi and had amazing zuppa de pesce. I wanted to recreate the experience. This dish was very different from the one I enjoyed last time (white sauce vs. red, and I was NOT expecting it to be that large or have a lobster) but it was just as delicious. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals as well, and the dessert and non-stop limoncello was a great end to the meal.
After dinner, we headed back to the hotel for some sleep. It was a beautiful night and the sea sounded so relaxing outside our window. You could see the city lights of Naples twinkling far into the distance across the sea. What a magical little place to visit!
